Hi guys — I’m here again with another Draped collaboration! As you know, I absolutely love these unique products. This month, I chose the RBG KenteHeadwrap named after the Pan-African flag — the perfect accessory to stand out and pull off some color with any ensemble. So, I transformed my head wrap into a top! Yes, head wraps are pretty versatile and can be worn several ways.
Given there was much going on in terms of color, patterns, and textures, I wanted to add an accessory piece that was simple and subtle. The Arbor Necklace from Jimani Collections added the best touch of delicacy to my look. The geometric pendant was hand cut from olive wood by talented male artisans living in the impoverished Kibera area of Nairobi, Kenya. A single brass stripe gives this necklace an effortless modern look that can be worn on its own or layered with other necklaces.
I am also in awe and totally obsessed with the Jimani Collections brand not only because of their amazing jewelry but because of their heartwarming story. The brand began with a small group of impoverished Kenyan women and a short class based on learning basic jewelry skills. With the help of many dedicated people both in the US and in Kenya, Jimani Collections seeks to create a sustainable solution to poverty. They work with women who have experienced a harsh reality and offer those women employment and education within product design and product creation. By building a bridge between consumers and artisans in the developing world, they’re able to promote equitable trade while alleviating widespread poverty.
Be sure to check out both of these amazing brands to learn more about their story and to do a little shopping as well. 🙂
Until next time,
